Why should I study with Adam?

Too often, guitar teachers lack materials with which to address typical questions. As a result, they scribble notes ad hoc in a students notebook. Not only does this produce sloppy, barely-legible notes, it wastes precious lesson time.

I have an extensive supply of handouts and worksheets which cover scales, chords, and theory. Additionally, I have handouts of real songs and solos students can learn.

All these materials are developed with professional notation software, so they are easy to read and understand.

Where my personally generated materials leave off, my collection of sheet music picks up. I have a collection of hundreds of magazines and books filled with accurate transcriptions of popular songs.

Since this translates into more than 500 songs, everyone can find real tunes to study, whether they're looking for Black Sabbath, Cheryl Crow, Charlie Christian or B.B. King.

Students in my studio get to use top-of-the-line music gear. Marshall half-stacks, Mesa-Boogie amplifiers, Lexicon effects and handmade classical guitars are just the beginning.

I have a computer music workstation that students use to record themselves. In this way, students not only learn from hearing their mistakes, they can track their progress over the months and years.

What's more, we use the computer to slow down tunes, analyze solos, and even to write songs and burn CDs of their playing!

Many guitarists are self-taught. While there is nothing wrong with this, it often means they lack the breadth of knowledge necessary to give students a world-class education

With several graduate degrees in guitar performance, as well as experience teaching music theory to undergraduates, I can help motivated students reach their goals, from playing in a rock band to studying at the college level.

Traditional instruction books are out of date for today's students. I have seen too many teenagers, who want to play rock, stuck with learning folk tunes that have no relevance to their life or interests. Unfortunately, many teachers rely on such books as their main teaching resource.

I'm committed to helping students learn what they want. After all, music is supposed to be fun! I'm equally comfortable helping a student study Black Sabbath or Bach.

Of course, I still teach fundamental skills. In fact, I think it's one of my strengths as a teacher. But I use the student's own interests to lay the foundation for a talent that will take them whereever they want to go.

And when the student is ready, I put him in the spotlight! I feature my students playing on this website, compelete with pictures and audio clips anyone can listen to.

It's a way of rewarding their hardwork, and allowing them to share their accomplishments with family and friends.

The ability to learn is the supreme human trait. Teachers have both the opportunity and responsibility to guide a student's education to the best of their ability.

I take my job seriously, and am always working to make my lessons' content and presentation a step above.
