What is the Feldenkrais Method?
It is a challenge to describe (or even harder, explain) what the Feldenkrais Method is. Essentially, it is a process, a way of moving and learning. And the only way to know the process is to experience it.
Imagine trying to explain a live music performance. You could describe all its properties - the people on stage, the instruments used, the venue, etc. You could even use words to describe the music that was played. But the real challenge would be to convey the experience - how did you feel, what did it mean, how did it change you?
And perhaps you could do that very well. Still, if the person with whom you were speaking had never actually experienced a live performance, your words would be approximations, and their understanding would be vague.
That's how it is with the Feldenkrais Method. You've got to do it to know it.
But that doesn't seem to cut it. Especially since those of us who know and love the method consider it to be so valuable. We want to communicate to others what we've found, and how they too could enjoy it.
In that spirit, I invite you to explore this (slightly) interactive description of the Method. If something in it intrigues you, come to an ATM class, or get an FI lesson. Then you too can struggle with describing the Feldenkrais Method!
